Obituary of Helen Berthe CAMPBELL

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hélène Berthe Campbell (née Alvarez) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on October 3, 2017 in Calgary, AB at the age of 61.

Hélène is survived by her children, Robert Campbell (Karen D’Cruz), Georgina Steffens (Ryan); grandchildren Anika and Hendrikus Steffens; siblings, German Alvarez, Calgary, George Alvarez (Lori), Edmonton, Michael Alvarez-Toye (Sandra), Calgary, Louis Alvarez, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Denise Alvarez, St David’s, and Suzanne Alvarez, (Steve d’Apollonia), Ottawa; nieces and nephews Justin (Lindsay), Jeanine, Damien, Matthew, Michael and Louis; dear cousins in Mexico and Quebec. She is predeceased in death by her parents, German and Berthe Alvarez.

Hélène was born on February 29, 1956 in Quebec, Quebec, but later resided in Buffalo, New York, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, and Calgary, Alberta.  She was married to Robert James Campbell in 1979, and while they later divorced, they remained friends over the years.

As an avid reader and lover of the written word, Hélène found great joy in her work at the Calgary Public Library.  Hélène’s family will always remember her as a kind, compassionate, and gentle soul who loved her grandchildren with devotion.  Hélène was an extremely creative woman who found great pleasure in baking, cooking, and crocheting – most notably her daughter’s wedding cake and the beautiful blankets for her children and grandchildren.

A gathering to celebrate Hélène’s life is scheduled for Friday, October 13, at 4:30pm at Cedarbrae Community Center (11024 Oakfield Dr SW, Calgary, Alberta), and all are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 112 at Foothills Medical Centre for the excellent and caring attention they gave to Hélène in her last days.
