Hjalmar TORGERSON

Obituary of Hjalmar Arnold TORGERSON

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our dear father and grandfather, Hjalmar Torgerson of Airdrie passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

Torgy grew up on a farm near Pike Lake, Saskatchewan. He was raised by his widowed mother, Agnes. Torgy worked hard, helping out his brothers, Stanley and Melford on their family farm. He met his beloved wife, Mary Melnychuk in Canmore, AB and married soon after on April 11, 1958.

He worked as a foreman, constructing roads around Saskatoon, and then in northern Alberta with Shell Oil. In 1993, he retired, in Calgary, after 12 years of employment as a gas line welder with Canadian Western Natural Gas.

They had two children, daughter Amy Loader of Calgary and son, Larry Torgerson of Airdrie. He will be fondly remembered as “Pa” by his two loving grand-daughters, Alicia Loader and Lyndsey Loader of Calgary.

Hjalmar was predeceased by his wife, Mary Torgerson; his parents Hjalmar and Agnes and four siblings.

Torgy was a caring, family man whose pride was immense. His memory will live in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
