Obituary of Muriel Jean CAMERON
Jean Cameron passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4th, 2018 at Bow Crest Care Centre at the age of 89.
Jean was born in the mountains of Rossland BC where she lived until she met and married Clarence Cameron. They lived in British Columbia until they moved to Calgary with their oldest two girls in 1952. Their youngest daughter was born in Calgary in 1959.
In her younger years Jean was a skier, and swimmer and later in life enjoyed bowling, knitting and reading. Jean had a passion for the telephone, stemming from her first job as a telephone operator – as we all know; Jean never forgot a phone number. She also worked part time at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary. Jean loved music both listening and singing and it wasn’t rare for her to spontaneously break out in song.
In the 1980's, Jean and Clarence enjoyed retirement to the fullest with many camping trips in their motorhome throughout Alberta and BC. They loved travelling; the lovebirds went on many vacations to sunny destinations and country and western music hotspots. Jean and Clarence valued family and travelling with their daughters and grandchildren on many special trips to visit family and attend reunions. Jean and Clarence could be found dancing at the Legion a many Saturday nights’.
Jean is survived by brother Edward McMartin and a step sister Diane Post and her three daughters Connie Loughridge (Garry), Penny Barnes (Jim), Donna Babott (Dick); six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Clarence Cameron (October 3rd, 2008) and older brothers James McMartin and Clifford McMartin.
We would like to thank Dr. M. Addison who cared for Jean for many years and a special thank you to Dr. Karen Packer who made Jean’s last days very peaceful. The family wants to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff of Bow Crest Care Centre for their kindness and compassion each and everyday. Jean considered everyone at Bow Crest Care Centre part of her family.
She is loved and will be missed by her family, friends and the wonderful people who made up her community and brought light into her life.
She courageously stood up to her 60 year struggle with mental illness with grace and a lot of lipstick.
