Born in Calgary to Scottish immigrants, Robert was raised in Calgary along with his younger brothers, Alexander and David. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Sarah; by his brothers; and by his wife of 32 years, Marie. He is survived by 4 children: Cheryl (John), Carol (Cliff), Valerie (Jamie) and Robert (Linda); 7 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Sacha), Karissa (Jason), Marcie (Michael), Laura (Jason), Kevin, Brendan and Zachary; and 11 great-grandchildren: Taelyr, Kendall, Makenna, Michaelyn, Avery, Noah, Delaney, Eden, Addyson, Tyson and Emmeline. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis Coulter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was a Veteran of WWII, having been a Flight Navigation Instructor. He served aboard the Lancaster bomber which began his life-long love of aircraft. He was an Electronics Technician and worked in Calgary until he moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1964 to marry the love of his life, Marie, who he met while vacationing in Hawaii. During their married life they travelled extensively and often wintered in Hawaii. Robert was predeceased by Marie in 1996. He returned to Calgary in 1997, and spent his remaining years with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was a quiet, gentle man who loved his family and enjoyed outings and special celebrations with them.
Robert's family will honour his request that there be no funeral. A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.com)
