Obituary of Yung SHIH

On a beautiful, warm and sunny fall day, we lost our dear and gentle friend Steven to a tragic accident near Brooks, AB. Steven was born, raised and educated in Taiwan where he worked as a physiotherapist before moving to Calgary in July 2002. At first he worked at a series of survival jobs, flipping burgers at A&W, pumping gas and working in the Deli and Liquor Store for Calgary Co-op. All the while, he was studying to become a Lab Technologist. He worked for Calgary Lab Services until March 2007, when he decided he would rather have an outdoor job. He became a bus driver for Calgary Transit, where he drove various routes, No. 3, 301, 20 the 300 Airport bus, and most recently 86, until his unfortunate and untimely demise. Steven was a kind, patient, dependable person, always smiling, always willing to help out in any situation – it would be “his pleasure”. He loved nature, plants, flowers, animals, children, watching racing cars, vintage autos, ocean breezes and open spaces. He had a passion for photography and spent many hours in his favorite places, enjoying the outdoors and taking pictures. Steven leaves behind his family in Taiwan, his parents, S.I. Tsai and C.S. Shih; his brother and sister-in-law, Yung Hsiang Shih and C.L. Cheng; and his younger sister, Y.W. Shih. He is dearly missed also by his adopted family in Calgary, Arie and Carrie van Vliet, Grandma Vivian Skrtic, Jacob van Vliet, and Ashiana Ali. Steven was a loner, but never alone. He also leaves a wide circle of friends in the Highwood Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he had been attending meetings, and in the international community, especially Yukari Hirose and Miwako Takahashi of Japan and Jin Soon Choi and Yi Seul Jang of Korea. Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Service for Steven will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 9660 Aurora Park Link N.E., on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM.
