Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Don. He passed away at home surrounded by family at the age of 50 years after a lengthy battle with cancer. Don was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Calgary in 1963 where they settled in to the Acadia area. He attended Bishop Grandin High School and then went on to work at Western Canada Steel, Alberta Aircraft Overhaul and finished his career with the City of Calgary. Don’s hobby and passion was auto racing. He began racing #61 in the Hobby Stock Class at Race City Speedway in 1986 and continued on from his success in that class to race CASCAR and IMCA. In his 13 year racing career he won 9 championships. The memories that family and friends have of those racing years will be cherished forever. He leaves to mourn his wife, the love of his life, Sherry; parents Jane and Arnold (Hop); brother Wayne (Veronica); sister Gail (Frank); sister-in-law Dawn; brother-in-law David (Tonii); nieces Ashley and Chelsea; nephew Brett; life-long friend Greg (Karen) and his dog Riggs who was his constant companion through his battle. Don will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends as his genuine, kind and loving nature touched everyone. Don’s request was to not have a service but to have a Celebration of his Life which will be held at the Stonegate Pub located at 7640 Fairmount Drive S.E. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866)412-4222, www.albertacancer.ca/memorial or to the Calgary Health Trust, Home Palliative Care, Suite 800, 11012 Macleod Trail S.E., Calgary AB T2J 6A5 Telephone: (403)943-0615, www.thetrust.ca.
