Obituary of John MARTIN

John passed away peacefully in his sleep shortly after midnight at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Pre-deceased by his wife Maud on August 13, 2005 he leaves to mourn his son Greg, daughter Cheryl (Rick DeWolf), grandson Chris DeWolf (Laine Tam) and granddaughter Jen DeWolf (Shelby Redmond), last surviving sister Mary and sister-in-law Pearl as well as nieces, nephews and friends. John spent many years working in the insurance industry until he set up his own accounting practice –John A. Martin & Associates. Many of his clients became good friends and he continued to do their accounting and tax work well into his seventies. A life-long learner John enjoyed reading about business as well as science and believed in taking herbs and supplements well before doing so became popular. He practiced Tai Chi well into his eighties. He was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a strong supporter of the Conservative Party. While work was his life, John did take time to travel with Maud and together they enjoyed numerous cruises, trips to Hawaii and Victoria, and one trip to Europe. John could talk a tough talk but inside he was a kind, caring and generous individual who was deeply committed to his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff on unit 82 at the Foothills Hospital for the care they gave John in the short time he was there as well as the many specialists who cared for him over the years: Dr. Roman, Dr. Muruve, Dr. Nesbitt, and Dr. Adams.
