Obituary of Wayne FOX

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Curtis Fox at the age of 62 years. Wayne was born in Calgary, Alberta, and was the second of three boys born to Mervin and Marjorie Fox. Wayne grew up on the family farm east of Crossfield, and graduated High School in Airdrie. Unsure of what he wanted to do in life, Wayne took a chance and applied to the Calgary Fire Department at the age of 21. After 33 years of service, Wayne retired as a Captain and Acting District Chief in 2005. It was as a young firefighter that Wayne first discovered his love of cooking as he was responsible for feeding his brigade. He then became known as a “master of the grill” to the delight of many family and friends. Wayne also loved horses and developed his passion first on the family farm, grooming extensively through his years of service with the Al Azhar Mounted Patrol. Through his association with the Shriners, Wayne travelled throughout North America and developed long-lasting and lifetime friendships. Wayne was the president of the Mounted Al Azhar Patrol in 1993 and became president of the International Shrine Horse Patrol in 2002. Even in his years of retirement, Wayne continued to search for new adventures and opportunities. Wayne will be remembered for his contagious laugh, comradery and community involvement. Wayne is survived by his mother, Marjorie Fox of Crossfield; brother Bryan (Judy) Fox of Crossfield; nieces and nephews, Brett (Maureen) Fox, Jan (Kurt) Ginther, Mark Fox, Angie (Tyler) Fox, Myles (Trena) Fox, Kyle (Kim) Fox and Jillian (Mitch) Bryanton and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Mervin Fox and brother Larry Fox. Funeral Services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at CROSSFIELD COMMUNITY CENTRE, 900 Mountain Avenue, Crossfield on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 2:00p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1529 Cedar Avenue, Montreal, QC.
