Obituary of Franklin GUDJONSON

Please share a memory of Franklin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With great sadness the family announce the sudden passing of Frank at the age of 84 years. Frank was born in Wynyard, SK, but moved to Alberta as a young man. Following stints building bridges, working on the Dew Line and owning a garage, he joined Air Canada where he worked for twenty-five years. Loving hockey, and with sons playing, he and Vera spent many years volunteering at Thorncliffe/Greeview Community. Taking an early retirement in 1985 allowed them the opportunity to travel. Frank’s passion for flying led him to buying his own Cessna, which he and Vera used to fly wherever they chose to go. Later they became snowbirds, and spent many winters in Yuma, AZ. Frank was an avid hunter and also loved music, learning to play a variety of instruments by ear. He loved nothing better than an evening playing old time music with friends. Frank spent the past year and a half living at the Harbours of Newport Seniors Residence where he made a new group of friends, enjoying many happy hours, movie watching and musical afternoons. Frank is survived by son Joel; sister Esther; brother Armand (Janick); stepchildren Rod (Heather), Beth and Stuart Turnbull, daughter-in-law Nancy; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Vera; sisters Marilyn, Shirley and Phyllis; and stepchildren Patsy and Rick. At Frank’s request, no funeral service will be held. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Frank’s Life at The Royal Canadian Legion 284 (Chapelhow), 606 – 38 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 781-1978, www.heartandstroke.ca.
