Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter Hatfield, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. In the presence of his three daughters, he joined his loving wife, Olive, who predeceased him in 2010. Walter was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick and earned his geology degree at Acadia University. In 1944 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Bermuda. After the war he continued his education at the University of Toronto. He then moved west to Alberta where he began his career with Gulf Oil. He eventually left the corporate world to set up his own geological consulting business. On a blind date in 1952 he met the love of his life, Olive Shymka. They were married on May 29th, 1954 in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1957, after living for a short period of time in Red Deer, Alberta, Walter and Olive moved to Calgary where they made their home and started their family. Their house on Glenfield Road remained the family home until the summer of 2012 Walter was a long time member of the Earl Grey Golf Course. He loved golf and looked forward to his weekly games with his good friends. During the cold Canadian winters, Walter and Olive would venture to Palm Springs where once again golfing and spending time with dear friends was always looked forward to. Walter will always be remembered by his three daughters, Debra (Gary) Koroluk, Carla (Larry) Adamson, Laurie (Garnett) MacBeth; his cherished grandchildren Brett and Carey Koroluk, Meagan, Lauren and Sean Adamson and Scott MacBeth; sister Esther Gray of Ohio and her three children Glenn (Judy), JoAnn (Jacques) and Mary Lou. Walter was predeceased by his treasured daughter Tracey in 1966; his dear grandson James MacBeth in 2009; his parents Harry and Laura Hatfield and his brother “Bud”.
