Obituary of Patricia BAKER
Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia Anne Baker, beloved wife of Steve of Calgary, passed away on January 31, 2013 at the age of 57 years.
Trish was born in Shoreham by Sea, Sussex, England her parents being Stan Turner, a Canadian Sailor, and Pamela Pike of England. The family moved to Canada in 1963 to live in Guelph, ON when she was 8 years old. She was involved in sports, particularly tennis in which she won many inter-school championships. In 1972 Trish returned to England with her brother Steve where she lived in Bristol for several years.
While in England, she traveled overland to India for a year, living in the small northern village of Manali before moving to Goa in southern India for a few months where she was involved in the first of the now legendary full moon parties. Trish returned to England via Pakistan, Afghanistan (as the Russians were invading), Iran, Turkey and Europe.
She returned to Canada, but after a short while the travel bug called again and in 1977 she returned with her brother to India for a more extensive tour of the country travelling for a year once again. On her return to Canada she moved from Guelph to Calgary, where she met her future husband and soul mate, Steve.
In 1983 once again she was on the road to India for a year and a half with her husband. This time she went to some very out of the way places in India before travelling to Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. From there they flew to Greece via Russia before taking a Magic Bus across Europe to England to visit Steves family.
On returning to Canada Trish enrolled in the PMAC university course, and became a very well respected purchasing manager in many top tier companies ending her career at Husky in an upper management position.
As she advanced in her career, she never lost the love of travel visiting such countries as Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Laos and Papua New Guinea to name a few. Her other passions included gardening, part of her English heritage and always a challenge in Calgary, along with her love of collecting antiques (Royal Doulton Character Jugs in particular) art from around the world, music and reading.
She will be missed by everyone she touched, especially her loving husband Steve. Go now and light a fire ahead so that I will know where to find you.
A Celebration of Trishs Life will be held at the CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W. (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
