Obituary of Dorothy SMYLIE

SMYLIE – Dorothy “Dot” Isobel (nee McCormick) December 3, 1925 – February 7, 2013 Dot passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at the Carewest Sacree Hospice with her daughter by her side. Dot was born in Vermilion, Alberta; moving to Calgary in the early 50’s to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry. One of Dot’s proudest moments was when, at the age of 23, she became the third female in Alberta to earn a pilot’s license. Dot is survived by her daughter Jackie Smylie (Richard Smith), sister Irene King, brother-in-law Don Stady, their families and her honorary sons - Kevin Clark, Keith (Barb, Dylan & Chelsea) Clark, and Gordon (Laura Dickson, Caitlyn & Krista) McLellan. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dot’s memory may do so to their favourite charity. A gathering to celebrate Dot’s life is planned for later this summer.
