Obituary of Clinton JOHNSTON

Please share a memory of Clinton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clinton Gerald Johnston, beloved husband of the late Nettie Johnston (nee Wilson) of Calgary, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Clint moved to Redwater, AB in 1953, working as a clerk for Imperial Oil, then later with Pacific Petroleums. This was when he met his wife of 44 years, Nettie Wilson. They were married in 1955 and started their lives together. In 1956, their son, Norm, was born. Clint was transferred to Calgary in 1958, where they built their home in Haysboro. Their daughter, Shirley, was born that same year. In 1979, they purchased their cabin at Moyie Lake, B.C., where many good times were shared with family and friends, and Mother always had a good meal prepared. Fishing on Lake Moyie was Dad’s most enjoyable pastime, where catch of the day was sure to be had. After Nettie’s passing in 1999, many of Clint’s pastimes were swimming at the South Y, bowling, and going to functions at the Braeside Seniors Group. It was at the Seniors Group, in 2003, that Clint met Alice Higson. He and Alice travelled Canada, the U.S.A., and Cuba. The family would like to thank Alice for the many years of going for dinners, watching movies, and attending various functions. Dad thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with you. Dad was a devoted, lifelong member of the Zetland Lodge#83 and spent 14 years as their secretary, and was Grand Tyler in 2001. During the years, Masonic Brethren Bert Van Helden, Karl Hansen, and Bob Romine were kind enough to visit Dad on a regular basis and help attend to some of his needs. Their friendship meant a lot to Dad and to the family. Clint is survived by his sister, Betty Johnston of Ventura, CA.; son, Norm Johnston (Lina); daughter, Shirley Germaniuk (Zac); and grandchildren, Krista Johnston (Chris), and Kayla Germaniuk, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Irene Johnston; brother, Norman H. Johnston; and his wife, Nettie Johnston. “Under the wide and starry sky, Dig the grave and let me lie. Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be; Home is the sailor, home from sea, And the hunter home from hill.” -Robert Louis Stevenson Funeral Services will be held at SOUTHWOOD UNITED CHURCH, 10690 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Burnsland Cemetery. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
