Ruth Boyd of Calgary passed away on April 12, 2013 at the age of 89 years. Ruth was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She served in the army during WWII and was stationed in Ottawa. She met her husband during the war in St. John’s, and after the war she followed him back to Calgary. They married and lived in Hillhurst in the house he built. She enjoyed working and liked having various jobs such as working for the Hudson Bay Company, the Alberta Treasury Branch, the Motor Vehicles Branch and lastly S.A.I.T. in the library. For many years she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 264 (Kensington Branch). When she retired she baked cookies for the patrons at the Alzheimer Society. Ruth is survived by her daughter Valerie Boyd of Calgary; two sisters Catherine Haug of Colorado Springs, CO and Yvonne Walton of Kent, WA; a brother Fraser (Henrietta) Ellis of St. John’s, NL; her sister-in-law Laura Boyd of Calgary; plus many nieces and nephews. To her good friend Wilma Conkie for her many visits over the past years, many thanks. Ruth was predeceased by her husband in 1996.
