Cheryl - My sincere condolences to you, your son and all of your extended family on the loss of Jon. Jon was a character. He made people laugh, and he laughed with them. Jon brought fun to the Law Department; he would entertain the City Solicitor (Del Kvemshagen) until he got what he wanted, and Del would be laughing when Jon left the office - Jon was the only person who could do that through the years I worked with Del. Jon made friends with everyone he worked with and came into contact with. Jon was a special man. He will be missed by many.

One of the things I loved and admired about Jon is that he had always just read or heard something interesting AND could remember the details enough to retell it... and he always had an opinion. "Good friends are like stars. We can't always see them but we know there are there." Rest in peace, my friend.

I worked with Jon for many years at the City of Calgary Claims Division. Throughout those years he made everyone who worked with him smile and laugh. If you stepped into his office he shared his stories, his jokes and his wisdom. A smart man, a well read man, a family man and a true friend always! Without doubt I have never met a more positive person. He would actually preach to you about being positive and you would believe! He had the gift of gab and once we even looked up the meaning of his last name and Skelly means “stories”. Oh my did he have stories and off the wall sayings . It's not very often that you meet someone and immediately feel comfortable in their presence. The meaning of legacy is what you leave behind when you pass- Jon gave us everything that was good and that was just knowing him.

Firstly I would like to extend my condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl and Jay and family. I just wanted to let you know, that I had such a great time working with Jon, listening to the many interesting stories he had of his adventures in life, and his work days at Parks. He was always ready with a smile and a joke. He would tell jokes and sing songs in with his dictation, which made them so much more fun and interesting to do. While with Claims we saw firsthand his love for good food (okay food of any kind LOL). I remember one time when he took a candy (as I had the only one left) right out of my mouth. I truly missed him when he left Claims. Luckily I got to see him a few times while he was working for Fleet. Take Care.

I worked with Jon at the City of Calgary Claims Department in the 1970's. Jon's sense of humour kept me going on many occasions. He was a very kind, caring and heartwarming person. I still remember the first day I met Jon and his humour. My condolences to his family. A great loss to them but I know he will always be with them throughout their lifetime. Alice

Sending you strength and courage to get through this very sad time. I feel so blessed to have shared some laughs and stories with Jon over these past few months. His biggest smiles were when he was sharing his stories and thoughts about his family, he knew he had been blessed in this life. Jon's love will live on in all of you! Love from cousin Pam
