Obituary of Marian Alexandra BURKE

Please share a memory of Marian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marian Burke after a brief but severe illness. Marian had a kind and loving heart. Her strong sense of justice allowed her to stand up for the little guy, often forgetting that she was one herself. She gave her time and effort selflessly and never for her own gain. Marian was born in Lethbridge and moved to Calgary in 1946 to pursue a career as a violinist for the Calgary Symphony. Starting in 1968, and lasting for 20 years, she became active in both Community and Civic politics. Marian managed numerous Aldermanic campaigns and was a fervent watchdog of City Hall. She was well known as a regular Letters contributor to the Herald. Marian is survived by her sons Donald, Patrick, Brian and daughter in-law Janice; grandson Morgan, and her sisters Audrey, Verna and their families. Marian was predeceased by her daughter Diane and her former husband Ronald in 2005. The family would like to thank Darola Bray and her family for their many years of friendship, help and support. At Marian’s request there will be a memorial service at a later date when arrangements have been made. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 29 Street Northwest, Calgary AB 403-521-3723.)
