Obituary of Jantina DeROOK

Tini’s family said goodbye to a wonderful, caring mother, Oma, great-grandmother and friend on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Born in Holland, Tini met and married Hank, the love of her life on November 16, 1946. In 1957 they packed up their belongings and sons John and Henry and sailed by ship to Canada to begin a new chapter in their life. The family arrived in Quebec City in July and travelled by train across the country settling in the Dutch community of Bowness, Calgary. Not long after their daughter Angie was born. After several years they moved to their home in Varsity where Tini continued to raise her family. Her home was always shared with family and friends. It was always filled with warmth and love. Tini’s laughter, sense of humour, quick wit and “serious glare” will remain in our hearts forever. Tini is survived by her sons; John (Charlotte), Henry and daughter Angela (Arnold), grandchildren; Dean, Diane, Darren, Maria, William and Grant, great-grandchildren; Braeja, Caylin, Jaiden, Paris and Maize and numerous nieces, nephews and family in Holland. Tini was predeceased by her husband Hank. A Memorial service will be held at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 244191 Range Road 31, on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 3p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Make A Wish Foundation https://makeawishsa.ca/ The family would like to thank the staff at Sarcee Carewest Hospice for treating mom with respect and dignity and making her last days comfortable.
