Obituary of Jatinder Kaur MARWAHA

With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce that our beloved mother passed away peacefully on December 8, 2014, at the age of 78 years, at Calgary Foothills Hospital, with her loved ones at her side. She was born June 28, 1936 in Sarokecheema, Pakistan, where she joyfully spent her childhood years. Her family moved to India in 1947, and settled in Rohtak, Haryana. In November 1955, she married Sher Singh Marwaha, and together they raised a fine family in Jalandhar, Punjab. She was a devoted wife and mother who was an example of selfless love and service, to all who were blessed to know her. She was a shining beacon of strength and courage, who cared for her husband throughout his extended illness. After his death in 1987, she raised their five sons, who were her greatest pride. In 1992, she moved with her family to Calgary, Canada, and with faith and determination, gave them the courage and support to settle down in their new home. Undaunted by the challenges of a new land, she was the pillar of the family, showering her children with her love and unshakable strength. She demonstrated how important family is, and how a strong work ethic and positive attitude can help us get through life’s biggest challenges. Mom was an extraordinary cook, and loved cooking for her family and friends. She enjoyed being surrounded by her large circle of loved ones, and they will all remember the special “favourite” item she would cook for each one…aloo parothas, cholay bhatooray,karhi chawal, rice pullao, kheer. She had so many “best” dishes, it would be difficult to list them all. She loved to socialize, and made friends with everyone she met. She had advice for every situation possible. And loved to describe past events down to the smallest detail. Her stories and fables, and anecdotes of family history will be sorely missed. She was a great music lover who nurtured, encouraged and supported her children’s musical gifts, and beamed with pride at their performances. She herself was blessed with great musical talent, and on very rare occasions we had the opportunity to hear her sing. How we long to hear her beautiful voice again. But her greatest gift was the love she gave freely to all. Each and every person who knew her would remember her kindness and generosity, and her unwavering faith in God. She enriched everyone’s lives with her gentle ways. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Sher Singh Marwaha, her elder brother Sohan Singh Anand, her younger brother Trilok Singh Anand, and her younger sister Sudarshan Kaur. She leaves her memories to be cherished by: her loving sons Harvinder (Asha), Devinder (Bavy), Baljeet (Harsha), Daljit, Parminder (Afroza); her beloved grandchildren Shefali (Arohi), Vikram, Gurinder, Amanjeet, Aarushi, Kabir, Karan, and great-grandson Aryan, as well as numerous family members and friends in India and Canada who share in her loss. The family is grateful to the staff of Foothills Hospital, for their kind and compassionate care.
