Dear Cousins!
(Gail, Loretta, Cherry, Hope, Fay, Iris, Vera, Lynn - "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last!" So a younger one dares add to the beatific eight!) I was grateful to receive the news about your dad just in time to speak with him, then offer Holy Thursday mass for him - yet for all of you because he requested: "for my family". On Easter Monday I offered my mass for the repose of his soul: despite the simple service, do not think that no priest offered mass for him beforehand! Knowing your dad was like bringing my own Grandpa back to life as a man of faith: he esteemed the priesthood, and wanted me to know his cherished cross. Soon afterwards, my journey to France led me to St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal as I awaited my French visa. In February, I made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land: Ash Wednesday mass on Golgotha, followed by a vigil at the Holy Sepulchre. Our final mass was on the Mount of the Beatitudes. Heaven is where we called!
Love, Fr Shane Lambert LC

My dear cousins. I was so sad to hear that your loving father had died. (One day shy of a year of my own mom's death) Uncle Lawrence has always had a special place in my heart. I know that we didn't see each other that often growing up, but whenever we did, I always felt drawn to your dad. He was kind, and gentle, and loving. You are very blessed to have him as your dad. Your hearts must be heavy with hurt. It doesn't matter how long we have a loving parent, it is never long enough. May your wonderful memories of him help you through this difficult time. Much love to all of you.

So very sad for your loss.
Uncle Johnny was always completely genuine and kind toward me on the too few occasions I had the pleasure of his company. I am certain he made no exception for me but that he was just that way, always, with everyone. If he asked what you were up to it was because he really wanted to know. If you asked his opinion he would share it freely and whether you agreed or disagreed it was always apparent that he had not arrived at it whimsically but had formed it from some mix of experience, logic, and plain old common sense. An honest to goodness good and honest man.
It seems they just don't make them like that anymore. I will always remember him very fondly.

About 18 years ago, after I moved to New Brunswick, Dad gave me a few dried up bulbs of crocuses as a reminder of my prairie roots. I had doubts, but planted them beneath my favourite birch tree. By last year they had overtaken the bed. They will be very welcome sight this year1

June 2013. Dad built this cabin in 1948 for a surveyor. It was eventually floated down Pocaterra Creek to Rafter 6, where it is now a guest cottage. He was delighted to see it, noting that it didn't have an attached washroom when it was built!

Dad's trailer always drew a ton of attention any where we went. Families would walk by many times just to take a second or third look.I never knew if it was because the trailer was so big and awesome or if they couldn't believe how many people were in it! We would have great meals and play tons of games. I remember Dad waking us up one morning having us confess as to who didn't wash the roaster and open the door so we could see the bear who was helping himself. Pretty sure Dad regretted that more than we did when we all started screaming!

Dad had shared with many the story of having a medical miracle while at St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal. A few years ago, Vera, Cherry and I took him back to Montreal. I will forever hold this memory in my heart to see how happy he was to be back there! Thank you for sharing your faith with us Dad xo

Kelsey giving Grandpa a Christmas kiss! I knew as a little girl and then as a grown woman, that I could curl into my dad's arms and share any joy, and all my sorrows. He didn't lecture, he listened. I will miss his arms wrapping me up like a dove, protecting me. I will miss holding his huge warm hands. And I will miss his tight comforting hugs...

Grandpa loved to make cook for the entire family. We had many meals of his waffles, when we had perogies he would stand for hours first par-boiling and freezing them and then when we cooked them up at a family occasion he would be the one over the hot stove boiling them - always eating last. He made hundreds of cookies for family over the years!

Anyone who knew my Dad well would know that a game of crib would be welcomed. I played many games with Dad which solidified the fact that he was an incredibly patient man. I still can't count right! :)

Mom and Dad with Father Shayne Lambert. Dad was so very proud of the vocation that his nephew, Father Shayne was called to. Dad had the opportunity to tell him that again on Good Friday, hours before he passed. Father Lambert told Dad he would dedicate his daily mass to my dad that day. Dad responded, "not just for me, for my family". He remained humble to the end. xo

Dad always wore his "safety glasses". He claimed they worked the best to keep the glare out of his eyes, but I'm pretty sure he wore them in case anyone needed anything renovated, that way he would be ready!
