Obituary of Ellen Marie SCOTT

Our beloved mother Ellen Marie Scott passed away in her sleep on April 25, 2015, at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband Edgar A. Scott, her parents, Carl and Martha Jasperson, her three sisters, Sigrid, Polly, Valborg, and her three brothers, Niels, Elmer, and Harold. She is survived by her four daughters and their families: Margaret aka Peggy, Judith aka Judy (Carl), Rita, Irene (John); twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a great many nieces and nephews and their families. Ellen was born Ellen Marie Jasperson to Carl and Martha Jasperson, in Redvers, Alberta and was their sixth child. When she was a young girl the family moved to a farm near Ochre River, Manitoba. In 1940 Ellen came to Alberta, where she worked on the Gleddie farm near Tilley, Alberta. She met Edgar, and they were married in 1940. They with their young family lived in Tilley, Brooks, Vauxhall, and finally Calgary in 1953 where she resided until her passing. Edgar and Ellen joined the Evangelical Free Church in Brooks and later attended the First Evangelical Free Church in Calgary. She volunteered at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where her love of books and reading led to her managing the hospital's book trolley. Ellen loved to read and to sew and knit. When her daughters were young she sewed most of their clothes. Later on, she donated a lot of her knitted baby sweaters and baby blankets to the Foothills Hospital Tuck Shop. Later still when she moved into Bow Valley Lodge, she brought along her sewing machine and was immediately enlisted part-time in repairs for residents' clothes. While visiting her in her last days we felt that Ellen was accepting that she would soon pass from this life, and that she was ready to be with her Saviour. She was a loving, calm, practical lady, and we will miss her greatly. A special Thank you to the staff on Ruby Unit of the Mount Royal Care Centre in Calgary for the loving care they gave to our Mom! A Memorial Service celebrating Ellen's life will be held Saturday May 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First Evangelical Free Church (on Elbow Drive at 732 - 55 Avenue SW, Calgary) In memory of Mom's love of books we ask you to "Bring a book.
