Obituary of Kenneth Edward William ECCLES

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Eccles, beloved husband of the late Patricia Eccles of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the age of 78 years. Ken was born on June 24, 1936 in North Battleford, SK to Muriel and Eric Eccles. He grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school, later completing high school in North Battleford as a room and board student. Following graduation in 1954, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy. After returning from the Navy, Ken began his surveying career which would span nearly 50 years, from his early days conducting soils and materials testing for the Royal Canadian Air Force, to his long time employment with Wolley-Dod & MacCrimmon Surveys Ltd., and Maltais Geomatics Inc. in Calgary. In 1965, Ken married Patricia Moncour in an elegant affair. Together, they loved to travel, whether it was road trips throughout Alberta, BC and northern Canada, visiting family in the US, or venturing to faraway places like Florida, Mexico, Italy, Scandinavia and Asia. But most of all they loved to spend time with each other, and their friends. Over the past several months, Ken truly missed his Legion buddies, and also his regular morning “meetings” at the A&W. Ken lost Pat this past February, and the family takes comfort in knowing they are together again. They would have been married 50 years this year. Ken Eccles is survived by his sister Shirley (Geoff) Bidewell of Vancouver, BC, sister-in-law Linda Eccles of Edmonton, sister-in-law Mimi Schlumberger of Carbondale, CO, brother-in-law Richard Ellis of Mill Valley, CA and nieces and nephews Neil and Victoria Bidewell, Cameron Eccles, Matlock and Carter Schlumberger, Claire (Ellis) Olson and Lauren Ellis. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Pat, his brother Brian and their parents. Also mourning the loss of their wonderful friend are Terry Beck, Shelley Ford and Tony Hayduk. The family would like to thank the Care Team at the Beverly Centre, Evergreen Unit, for their loving, compassionate care of Ken, and also to Agnes Bagwell for her kindness during Ken’s final days. A special note of gratitude is extended to George Rannelli for being there when needed the most, and to Ken and Pat’s extended “family” at the Chapelhow Legion, Branch No. 284. A Memorial service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Please forward condolences to through www.calgarycrematorium.com If so desired, donations may be made to the Calgary Poppy Fund in memory of Ken and Pat Eccles.
