Obituary
Obituary of Audrey Clarice KENNEDY
Please share a memory of Audrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Audrey, beloved daughter, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015.
Audrey was born on the family farm in Limerick, Saskatchewan; the youngest of four girls. Five years later, her brother Don was born and the family was complete. She preferred to help her mom with chores in the house, rather than deal with livestock or farming, and reluctantly rode a horse to school when she had to. Her mother wisely advised her “to never marry a farmer”.
She took her mom’s advice, moving to Edmonton as a young woman, and finding a job at the “Army and Navy” store. She met the love of her life, Lucien Jules Kennedy (Ken) at the Rainbow Ballroom on Whyte Avenue and married him on January 10, 1953.
Ken was a Geologist, and he took his new bride to Norman Oklahoma where he finished off his university degree. Audrey lived in terror of tornados that year, but luckily never had to cope with one. They returned home to Alberta, settled in Calgary and eventually had a daughter, Donna, and Marsha four years later.
Audrey was a quiet, gentle soul, who loved her family and took pride in caring for them. She enjoyed hiking in the mountains and going back to Saskatchewan and British Columbia to visit her parents and siblings, nieces and nephews. In later years, she accompanied Ken to visit his family in Boulogne Sur Mer, France, and to Scotland where Ken’s father was born. She and Ken enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Audrey is survived by her daughter Donna Heerensperger (Corey), sisters Thelma Roycroft and Mildred Knudsen (Ted), sister-in-laws Simone Vandergrift and Jessie Ellis, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Heerensperger (Lisa), Matthew Heerensperger (Tara), Ian Heerensperger and Brittany Oxton (Josh); and her great-grandchildren Elias and Kennedy Heerensperger, and Jayda and Oliver Bailey.
She was predeceased by her parents Ethel and Clarence, daughter Marsha (1998), husband Ken (2004), sister Berna (2006) and brother Don (2014).
In accordance with her wishes, there will not be a memorial service.
