Obituary of Joan Atlee WILLIAMS

Joan Williams, wife of Marshall M. Williams, passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday November 5, 2015. Joan was born in St. John’s Newfoundland and raised in St. John, New Brunswick. She was a character, never faint of heart (until her final day), a true matriarch (some would say ‘Queen’), a great confidant to her girlfriends, and loved by a broader community who appreciated her gusto and authentic personality. If Joan was in the room, you could not ignore her. In her early days, she was actively involved within her community through the Junior League and later the University of Calgary Senate and Calgary Foundation. She selflessly committed her life to supporting her husband’s active career, and to raising a challenging household of four boys and a girl. Her family would like to say thank you to the staff at Maison Senior Living and the professionals within the Alberta Health Care System. She is survived by her husband; her children Peter (Carol Ann), Alec (Susan), Stephen (Cari), and Margot (Dennis); and her six grandchildren Anna, Sacha, Ty, Carly, Mackenzie, and Kenna. She is predeceased by her son Colin. Honouring her request there will be no funeral. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ab.ca).
