I just saw this on line. I had the privilege of working with Ken at UBC on the Imperial Oil project in 1983-4. His dedication and commitment to his work was truly remarkable. He was thorough professional and a very kind person. I have fond memories of the time I have worked with Ken. My deepest sympathy to Ken's family.

Dear Chitra and Deepa,
Our condolences on your profound loss and wish you and the family peace and equanimity. I did not know Ken personally but reading his accomplishments in Imperial Oil publication as well as his older brothers comments at the Service made me aware of his zest for life and dedication to his family and work.

Demeanor as cool and serene as a mountain lake, with ripplings of gentle humour, that's how I remember Sury. from the few, but important occasions when we all gathered; at Alberta, when the whole family accompanied my sister Chitra to "meet Sury"; next their wedding at Balaji Temple Pittsburgh, during Deepa's childhood, Annaprasan of my first grandchild Vik, finally passing of our mother, last year, where we met together last. At all times Sury conveyed quiet dependability, twinkling eyes speaking his helpfulness.
Sury in "Imperial Oil November 2010" recognizes the formative role of his parents, whom I had the privilege of meeting. They personified traditional ideals of simple high minded living, and yet were accepting of the ideas of the new world where their sons had migrated..
Sury's words in the same article barely hint at his inner motivations which reticence would not have allowed him to speak upon directly, a spirit of balanced, yet persistent aspiration for 'Satya', noble truth, and 'Dharma' right conduct, in work and in life.
Perhaps it was the secret of the soup, "Mother's Rasam podi" which had nurtured him and which he regularly brought back from India to prepare at Calgary.
Kalyan and I pray his soul may attain eternal abode with the Divine, and that Chitra and Deepa gain further strength from the inspiration of his life.

Om , May all be dedicated to That which is Truth, Brahman

Chitra aunty,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Sury uncle's passing.
I hadn't seen him much since we moved from Canada, but in thinking of the times we'd spent together when I was a child, I most remember his warm and infectious smile - especially those smiling eyes. :) And what a lovely article written about his work and his passion. He will be missed by many.
I hope you and Deepa will soon find peace and continue to live your lives in his honor, and that we will meet again soon.

I would like to pass on my deepest sympathy to Ken's family. I had the privilege of working with Ken for the last 10 years or so of my career at Imperial. We spent many hours working on various aspects of the Kearl project. His dedication and commitment to his work and the respect he had for everyone he worked with, was truly remarkable. I can honestly say I was blessed to have known Ken and honored to have worked with him. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to Ken's family. I had the privilege of working with Ken, mostly from a distance, over the past few years. He maintained such ownership of his job and passion for his work. Few people have left such a legacy behind within our company. Most importantly, he was a genuine, kind person. His accomplishments will live on. And you can take great pride in that.
