Obituary
Obituary of Surjit Kaur BRAR
Please share a memory of Surjit to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Surjit Kaur was an amazing person with a beautiful and loving personality. Her roles were many. She was born in Khai, Moga in 1938 and was a daughter to late Sardar Jangir Singh and Late Sri Mati Nehal Kaur. She was a sister to late Sardar Gurbax Singh, late Sardar Bikar Singh, and Sri Mati Gurmail Kaur. Surjit Kaur was a strong woman who learned independence from a very young age. Her parents passed away when she was a child. Her and her siblings were raised by their eldest brother, Sardar Gurbax Singh, who was 12 years old at the time. Her older brother was very dear to her. She adored him and kept him very close to her heart.
At the age of 22 Surjit became a wife to the well respected late Sardar Wariyam Singh and together they started a family in Himatpura, Moga. Surjit Kaur was a mother to three children, Roop Singh, Bhupinder Kaur and Jagsir Singh. The years she spent with her husband and children were filled with happiness and much joy. Surjit was widowed at the age of 44. Surjit was also a mother to her daughter in laws Inderjit Kaur and Kiranjit Kaur. She was a pua ji to Rano Kaur. Later, Surjit came to Calgary in 1987 where she resided with her children and spent the remainder of her years helping raise her eleven grandchildren, Jessy, Happy, Chirdi, Ricky, Harleen, Prabhleen, Jaskaran, Jason, Benti, Evon and Vicky and watched them grow.
Many knew her as Mata. Her friends called her Seeto, the children in the village of Himmatpura including her own children grew up calling her Chachi. For all her grandchildren she was simply, their Bibi. A Bibi who was so dear and precious. Surjit was known for her wonderful caring personality, unconditional love, her laughter, sense of humor, wisdom, and strength. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Despite the hardships Surjit faced she learned and taught those she left behind, how to love, laugh and persevere through difficult times. After courageously fighting a battle with cancer, Surjit leaves behind much wisdom and love to her children and all her grandchildren. May she rest in peace.
