Obituary of Elaine JONES

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mom was born in Strasbourg 1932, the youngest of four children. She lost her mother at the age of 8. The family struggled to remain together, but it was not to be. Mom was then enrolled in “Sacred Heart Academy” in Regina where many happy and lasting memories were formed. Mom would often share fond recollections of her time being raised and nurtured by the nuns. After completing the 8th grade, she made the momentous move to the big city, Calgary, following her big sister, Helen. It was at this time she started her brief ‘corporate’ career. Her most memorable job was as a Telex operator at the Bank of Montreal, on Stephen Avenue. It was here in Calgary where Mom met Dad at local dance. Romance blossomed, marriage and children followed shortly thereafter. Mom’s career as homemaker extraordinaire was set! After a few years in Edmund Heights, the family moved into their dream home on the furthest southern edge of Calgary, Acadia, on Grey Cup Sunday, 1960. For 10 years, Mom managed the shoestring budget with great humour and expertise, ensuring no one went without. In 1970, a further surprise, a fifth child was welcomed to the house. Shortly thereafter, Mom was widowed. She faced and conquered the further challenge of being both mother and father to the three youngest children left at home. Mom was a quiet, private person that all of us kids could talk to anytime and confide in. She took simple joy in bird watching at home, as well as following the Flames and Stamps. Her constant companion, Maggie the rescue mutt was inseparable. Mom outlived most of her friends and almost all of her family. She lived in the same house for over 50 years, and just got tired. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, just as she had always wished for. She leaves five children to mourn her; Bob, Deb, Terry, Greg (Jill), Jill (Axel), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We sure miss you, Mom.
