Obituary of Cynthia May MCPHAIL
Please share a memory of Cynthia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cynthia “Billie” McPhail passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Foothills Hospital due to complications following hip surgery.
Cynthia May Browne was born in Croydon, England and emigrated to Canada as an infant. She and her sisters enjoyed reminiscing about happy times growing up in St. Lambert, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario. In 1950 she married Don and they lived in Woodstock, St. Catherines and Oakville, Ontario. Their final move was in 1977 to Calgary, and Billie began a part time career with Birks at Market Mall where she could indulge her love of fine china, crystal and silver.
Billie had a soft spot for all animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses. Her canine friend, Maggie, who visited her daily, was a source of great joy as were her special friends and neighbors in Dalhousie.
With her quick wit Billie made friends easily and along with her family she will be missed by the staff and residents of the Edgemont Retirement Residence where she resided this past year.
Billie is survived by her son, Mike (Kathy) of Calgary; daughter, Leslie (Mike) of Parksville; grandchildren, Lisa (Booker) and Ross of Calgary; sister, Joyce of Calgary; and nephews, Bill, Tony, Drew, David, and Tim. She is predeceased by her husband, Don; daughter, Shelley; sister, Mary; and brothers-in-law, Fred Boyko and Fred Fowlow.
At this time, the family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all those who have so kindly and generously extended their support and friendship to Billie over the years.
At Billie’s request, no service is planned. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, www.calgaryhumane.ca.
