Obituary of Deryck Charles CHOATE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deryck Charles Wilton Choate, beloved husband of Stella Choate on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Deryck was born in Red Deer on June 15, 1925 where he grew up on a Dairy farm. He graduated from UBC as a Mechanical Engineer in 1948 and began his career with Imperial Oil Limited, starting in Norman Wells in 1952. Deryck loved the outdoors and the Rocky Mountains. He was an avid skier in the Winter, and enjoyed camping and hiking in the Summer. Deryck had a passion for photography with wild mountain flowers being his favourite subject. Deryck & Stella retired in 1980 and became snowbirds heading to Mesa, Arizona every winter for 31 years. Deryck leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Stella and their five children, Barbara Sanden, Deryck (Anita), David, Patricia Buchanan (Ian) & Karen Brost (Kerry). He is further survived by his 12 grandchildren, Jennifer (Marcow) & Robert Choate, Michelle (Mathieu), Mandy, Melissa & Emily (Travis) Brost, Cody (Ruth), Amy (Matt) & Cole Buchanan and Rhonda (Gord), Stephen & Kevin Sandau and his very special great-grandchildren, Duncan & Arthur, Benjamin, Leah & Jillian and Ayesha & Olive. Deryck also leaves behind several nephews and nieces. Deryck was predeceased by his parents, John (Jack) & Marguerite (Daisy) Choate, his Identical twin brother John and his sister Marguerite. There will not be a funeral at the request of Deryck. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
