Obituary of Stella Jennie CHOATE

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stella Jennie Choate (nee Tendeck) on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the age of 95. Stella was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Deryck in September 2016, her parents, Anton and Barbara Tendeck and her siblings, Elsie, Jaye and Peter. Stella passed peacefully at the Bethany Care Home in Cochrane while watching curling with her son David who was by her side holding her hand. Stella is lovingly remembered by her children, Barbara Sanden, Deryck (Anita) Choate, David Choate, Patricia (Ian) Buchanan, and Karen (Kerry) Brost. Stella will be fondly remembered by her twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Stella is further survived by her older sister Ollie Brown and several nieces and nephews. Stella was born September 22, 1921 in Guernsey, Saskatchewan and raised in Prince Albert. She married the love of her life Deryck on June 8, 1952. Stella was an exceptional homemaker with a passion for cooking and trying new recipes. She loved to entertain with every event well planned with an amazing meal and dessert. Stella shared the love for the outdoors and Rocky Mountains with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping and hiking in the summer and was an avid skier in the winter. Stella and Deryck hung up their skis and retired in 1980, becoming snowbirds and headed south to Mesa Arizona for the next 31 years. Stella always came back with a handful of new recipes to make and crafts to share with her family. Stella had a quick wit and a great sense of humour and loved to watch sports on TV with football, golf and curling being her favourite. There will not be a funeral at the request of Stella. A private family celebration of life will be held for Stella and Deryck in the summer of 2017.
