Obituary of Peter Paul ENGEL

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter’s journey began with his birth in Belgium, then continued in Salzburg, Austria where he was raised and educated. He moved to Calgary in 1955. After a stint as a construction worker, he was hired on with the City of Calgary Waterworks Department. He had a 25-year career as a City employee where he was known for making sure his work crew did things right. He was forced to retire due to a bad back at the age of 46. He was a dedicated family man. He married his beloved and loving wife Rachel in 1974. Together, they raised their daughter, Becky, who was and will always be, “Daddy’s Little Girl”. Peter dearly loved their grandson Kyle. Peter was predeceased by his Mother and Father, and was loved like a son by Rachel’s Mom and Dad, Nanny Marie and John Robert Dale. Nanny trusted and chose Peter to handle her affairs when she passed away. Peter loved the freedom of riding horses which led to numerous roles in TV westerns and movies, including "North of 60," “Lonesome Dove” and “Cool Running”. The last phase of his journey included many years on dialysis at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre and numerous hospitalizations due to related complications. He unexpectedly passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre. With his loving wife Rachel, constantly by his side, he courageously battled his health challenges right to the end. Besides his immediate family, Peter is survived by his daughter from his 1st marriage, Teresa; grandsons Peter (Kirsten) and Raymond (Jenna); great-grandsons Grayson and Bohdi; his sister Violet; nieces Cheryl and Lindsay; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews Milann, Anthony, Tobias, and Olivia. Peter’s family is grateful for the medical care he received over the years by his Nephrologist, Dr. Mustata, his family physician, Dr. Neary and the staff at the Chumir Community Dialysis Centre. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Peter may be made to the Southern Alberta Renal Program (SARP) c/o Calgary Health Trust - 800, 11012 MacLeod Trail SE Calgary, AB T2J 6A5 or online http://calgaryhealthtrust.ca/ A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held in the Foothills Medical Centre’s Sacred Space / Chapel (1403 – 29th Street NW) on Saturday, 25 March 2017 at 3:30 pm.
