Obituary of Georgina Helen KRUPA

Please share a memory of Georgina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peacefully, with her daughters at her side, Georgina Helen Krupa, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, Alberta on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the age of 100 years.

Georgina was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 21, 1917.  She lived on a farm in Gunton, Manitoba during her youth.  In May 1943, Georgina married Philip Krupa, a union that lasted fifty-four years.  Together, they started to work in Barrows, Manitoba as store owners and post masters.  A few years later, they moved to Matlock, Manitoba, where they owned and operated Matlock General Store and Post Office.  Georgina worked as the skilled butcher and post master. Due to their hard working ethics and ability to build relationships with the local and summer residents, Matlock General Store became a very successful business and the hub of the village.  The store was sold in 1976, but Georgina continued to work as post master until 1992.

For those who did not know Georgina personally, every aspect of her personal accomplishments can be attributed to her consistent hard work, dedication, and compassion.  Georgina was a member of the Eastern Star, becoming a Worthy Matron for one and a half years, as well as an active member and volunteer with the Anglican Church of Matlock, the United Churches of Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba and St. Thomas United Church in Calgary, Alberta.  Georgina was well known for her personality, friendship to all, and for the great pies she made.  Georgina loved to travel, read, look after her garden, and spend time with her family.

It is difficult to condense a hundred years of life into such few words.  Georgina will always be remembered as an honest, hardworking, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with integrity everyone could count on.

Georgina will be sadly missed by her daughters Myrna (Allan) Malanik, and Karen (Stan) Manning of Calgary; by her nephew, David (Phyllis) Krupa of Manitoba, whom she raised; her grandchildren  Chelsey, Alana, Graham, Robert, Kevin, Jordan, Mark, and Raymond; and great-grandchildren Tyrone, Keira, Shea, Jorja, Nathan, Ben, Anders, Grant, Marshall, and Maja.

Georgina was predeceased by her husband Philip (1997), an infant daughter Helen (1947), and an infant grandson.

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Life for Georgina will be held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Blvd N.W.) on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date.
