Obituary of Ruth Audrey MATTHEWS

Ruth Audrey Matthews of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the age of 95 years.

Born in Winnipeg on December 9, 1921, Ruth moved with her family to Calgary age the age 14 years.  She married George on June 24, 1944 and they enjoyed forty-seven years together.  Mom was very involved with Wild Rose United Church.  She was a life member of the United Church Women, also a member of Keen Age and Tandem Couples Club. Ruth drove for Meals on Wheels for which she received a long time service award.  Her other favourite past time was sewing, knitting, camping, and gathering with family and friends.  But it was her grandchildren that brought her the most joy.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Colleen (Terry) Roberts; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Deanna Matthews; sister-in-law Elsie Berke; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased her husband H. George Matthews, son Bruce, brother Glen, and sister Hazel.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) for a time of remembrance on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
