Obituary of Surinder Singh DHESI

“The Woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I Sleep.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Surinder Singh Dhesi "Kaka," beloved husband, father and grandfather, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Kaka was born April 18, 1942 in Eldorate Kenya. He spent most of his youth in Uganda growing up in the towns of Jinja and Masindi, before moving to England. On December 31, 1973 he married Satwant and moved to Calgary, Alberta to live out the rest of his life. He had a passion for history and politics, and loved to talk anyone’s ear off about it. He was also an avid fan of boxing and soccer, and never missed a Manchester United game.  The last 14 years of his life was spent raising his grandchildren – whom he learned how to change diapers for – an amazing feat for anyone who knew him.

Kaka leaves behind his loving wife of forty-three years, Satwant Kaur; daughter Maneet and son-in-law Harminder; sons Sandeep and Mandeep; adoring grandchildren Sahil, Veer, and Simran;  and siblings Gurbux Singh and Narinder Singh.  He will also be lovingly be remembered by all his nephews and nieces, as well as his extended family in Canada, England and the United States.

Kaka was predeceased by his parents, Waryam Singh and Gurbachan Kaur; two brothers, Jas and Kulwant and a baby sister.

Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
