Obituary of Gordon Daniel FLEGEL

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A loyal and loving family man, Gordon Daniel Flegel, beloved husband of Caroline Ardys Flegel, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the age of 81 after complications from a major fall in March and his battle with cancer.

Born in Saskatoon, Gordon grew up in Moose Jaw where he developed both his athletic and academic skills graduating with honours from St. Louis College (1953).

He immediately embarked on his banking career with additional studies and work at banks and oil companies, eventually joining the “Business Development Bank of Canada” (BDC) (previously IDB, FBDB) in 1968. He enjoyed assisting entrepreneurs developing their ideas into successful businesses and helping struggling businesses get back on their feet. Even though he retired from BDC in 1995, Gord continued with contracts for many years after that.

While working, studying, and playing, Gordon met his life-long partner Ardys in 1959 and started his family life with marriage (1961), son Michael (1963) and daughter Cheryl (1965).

Gord led his family into camping, skiing, and was actively involved as a coach, official and a team manager in his children’s sports. Gordon became an avid golfer and managed to capture the elusive hole-in-one!

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Ardys, his son Mike and daughter-in-law Paula; grandson Alex; sister Dolores, and siblings-in-law Lyle and Deirdre, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Cheryl.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church hall.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of their choice.
