Obituary of Malati MATTU
Malati Mattu passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Malati Mattu was born on March 1, 1930 in Srinagar to a prominent Kashmiri Pandit family, and was the third child of six siblings. She completed her university education from the University of Delhi, and began her career with PUSA Institute in Delhi as a researcher. She then began working with the University of Delhi as a professor, and remained there until 1985 when she moved to Canada with her family.
In 1958 she married Motilal Mattu, the love of her life, and they spent over 50 years together living a spiritual and fulfilling life. They had two daughters, Ranjana and Meenakshi, and together, they built a home full of love, laughter, and happiness. To her children, she was not only a friend, but an unconditional source of inspiration and guidance. At a young age, Malati developed a love for gardening and travelling that remained with her through the years. Malati was a social butterfly, and never passed up an opportunity to spend an afternoon visiting with friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, and her passion for education led her to mentor young students in a formal and informal capacity.
Malati was a devoted grandmother. Having lived with her two grandchildren, Amit and Natasha, for most of their childhood, she was integral in raising them and the cornerstone of their family. She showered them with affection, and she ensured that her exuberance and passion for life were reflected in them both. Malati worked hard to instill her unparalleled moral character into her children and grandchildren, and led by example treating everyone she met with respect, compassion and kindness.
Malati will always be remembered as a vivacious and dynamic woman—and will continue to be an inspiration and source of strength to everyone whose lives she touched.
