Obituary of Iris Gladys SMITH

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Iris Smith on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England, Iris came to Canada as a young bride. She travelled aboard the MV Georgic to Halifax, Nova Scotia.  She and her newborn daughter, Marilyn, then boarded a train to Calgary to join her husband Tony who had arrived earlier to find a home. They settled in Calgary and raised four daughters. As well as being a kind and loving mother, Iris spent many years as an employee of the Hudson’s Bay Department Store.

She is survived by her daughters Marilyn Smith, Roxanne (Norman) Soldan, Jennifer (Terry) Graville, and Barbara (Darcy) Devitt; grandchildren Michael, Graham, Audrey (Nick), Matthew, Nicholas, Mitchell, Jake, Ashley; as well as great-grandson Sebastian.

Iris was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Anthony Graham Smith; grandson Nathan; and parents Sidney and Harriet Davies.

A private family memorial has been held.
