Obituary of Donald Alan PETTIE

Don passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 12, 2017.

Born and raised in Calgary, he attended Western Canada High School before earning an athletic scholarship to Drake University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. Don, team captain nicknamed "the comet”, was honoured as one of the Drake Relay Athletes of the Century in 2009. He was the Canadian track and field champion in the 100 and 220yd sprints in 1949 and competed in two track sprint events for Canada in the London 1948 Olympics, and in four track sprint events in the Auckland 1950 British Empire Games, where he achieved a Bronze Medal in the 100 Yard Dash ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCC_VFmbszU ).  Don enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the oil patch as a Landman at Imperial Oil, first in Edmonton and then in Calgary, ultimately becoming Contracts Manager, Land; he retired from Imperial in 1992.

Don loved to play golf and enjoyed curling. Don will be most remembered for his sharp wit, attention to contract detail and his dry sense of humour.

Don is survived by his sons David, Alan (Diane) and Brian; as well as granddaughters Elizabeth and Taylor.

Don was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie in 1988; his mother Isabella and father Thomas; and his siblings Mina, Peggy, Nellie, Norman, Thelma and Tom.
