Obituary of Diane Marie LAFLAMME-MCCAULEY

Please share a memory of Diane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Diane Marie Laflamme-McCauley passed away on Wednesday, August 23 at home surrounded by her loving family-husband (Ed McCauley), Son (Alec McCauley) and Daughter-in-Law (Christina Haska)-after a courageous battle with cancer.  Diane is survived by her mother (Fleur-Ange Laflamme), 5 brothers and sisters and their spouses (Arthur Laflamme and Janice, Marie Laflamme, Beatrice O’Byrne and Terry, David Laflamme and Darlene, and Robert Lalfamme and Shelley) plus a large loving family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews living across Canada and abroad.  She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Laflamme, Squadron Leader (Retired) RCAF.

Diane was a successful graphic and web designer who founded Laflamme Designs.  In the early days of the internet and digital design, she built pioneering websites and reports for corporations and community organizations that pushed the envelope for effective communication and functional navigation.  Diane held graphic and web design positions that the University of California, Santa Barbara, and mostly recently in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary.  She was a science graduate of the University of Ottawa, also studying at McGill University and the Richard Robinson Academie de Dessin de Mode.

Diane shared her love of travel and living abroad with Ed and Alec for extended periods, in France, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, England and Scotland, and the U.S.  Her designs were heavily influenced by her appreciation of life in different cultures and locations.  An avid photographer and gardener – Diane appreciated the beauty and colours of nature, and any walk was filled with mandatory pauses along the way to capture that perfect floral image or landscape scene.  Diane possessed an inner quiet strength that made everything around her better without any desire to be in the limelight.

Diane will be remembered at a ‘Celebration of Life’ in Ottawa with her family and close friends later in the fall (TBD).

In lieu of flowers, Diane requested that donations be made to Cancer Research at the University of Calgary or the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary to help families in need.
