Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret was born in Vancouver, B.C. in May of 1947. As the oldest daughter of a military family her childhood involved many moves, including 2 stints in Germany. Margaret enjoyed her time in Europe and became fluent in German, she maintained this skill for her entire life. Margaret was an independent spirit who chose to join the US Marine Corps, where she graduated in 1966. While stationed in South Carolina she met and married Tom Hawkins, a US Army medic. In the Spring of 1967 she became pregnant, soon after Tom was deployed to Vietnam and tragically killed in action. Margaret left the Marines and after a brief period living in Montana with Tom's family, she moved with her son Thomas to Canada, settling in Calgary. Her second child, Natalie was born in 1975, and a few years later the family moved to a hobby farm near Strathmore. Margaret worked as a civil servant for the Federal Government and was a proud union rep for the local Public Service Alliance of Canada. She also continued her travels with trips to Australia and Scotland. Margaret maintained a keen interest in Ancient history and enjoyed reading extensively. As a devoted mother, Margaret was always proud of the achievements of her children, Thomas and Natalie.
