Obituary of Lorraine Gladys MARUYAMA

Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine Maruyama on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Agapé Hospice in Calgary after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer.

Lorraine was born, raised and lived her entire life in Calgary. Lorraine and Wayne were married in 1967 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June.

Lorraine was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to the great love for her family, Lorraine had a genuine love for animals, especially the family dogs. Lorraine had numerous interests; she was an avid reader and enjoyed relaxing outside in her garden and cooking for her friends and loved ones. Since retiring after a long career in the legal field, Lorraine enjoyed spending time in Palm Springs at their beautiful home with friends.

Lorraine was a loyal friend to all those who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered for her strength of character, lively sense of humour and quick wit, her delicious cooking and her incredible generosity, as well as giving back to the community.

Lorraine is survived by her husband Wayne; daughter Carla; daughter Maiko and her husband Christopher Smith; sister Shirley and her husband Ken Wilson.

Lorraine spent her last two months at the Agapé Hospice which became her second home.  Dr. Sharma and the staff at Agapé became part of Lorraine’s family and we are so thankful for their exemplary care, compassion and kindness.

In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes there will be no funeral service in Calgary.  A private interment will take place at a later date in Taber, Alberta.

If friends and family so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8, telephone: (403) 282-6588.
