Obituary of Esther May OBEE

Esther May Backous a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend left us on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the age of 98.

Esther was born in Olds, AB one of twelve brothers and sisters.  At the age of two she went to live with her grandparents in Omak and Wenatchee, Washington returning at the age of eighteen to live on the family farm in Olds.  Later she moved to Calgary, married Percy in 1944 and lived at Turner Valley before returning to Calgary where they had a son Stewart.  She worked for a while at Hudson’s Bay and over the years enjoyed doing some catering.  Amazingly she still drove till the age of 92 and lived in the same house for fifty years.  Esther enjoyed camping, hiking, picnics and entertaining.

She is survived by son Stewart and daughter-in-law Barb; grandson Scott; sisters Nadine, Lois (Eugene), and Ivalou; brother Frank (Bev); sister-in-law June; as well as scores of generations of nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by husband Percy in 1997 and grandson Sean in 2016.

A Celebration of Life for Esther will be held at Tuxedo Hall, 3102 Centre St. N Calgary on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow.
