Obituary of Thomas CRAIG
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Tommy Craig, beloved husband of the late Lyveta Craig, passed away peacefully in Calgary on December 17, 2013 at the age of 95 years.
Tommy was born in Calgary, where he lived his entire life. After graduating from Crescent Heights High School, Tommy had a brief career as a Commercial baker, then, following his fathers footsteps, joined the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1936. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for four years and then returned to the CPR, eventually retiring as a railway engineer after 43 years of service. Tommy was a self reliant man with incredible energy during his working years. In addition to his work life he also owned a farm, built houses, and invested in real estate.
In his retirement years he and Lyveta danced with the Banff Trail Square Dancers and the Confederation Park Gliders. For 20 years he organized the Monday afternoon card game at the Confederation Park Seniors Club, always supplying delicious baking. Tommy (the Rocket) had a passion for cars; he drove his Buick up to his 93rd birthday.
Tommy was an incredibly optimistic person. Even though he grew up during The Great Depression and served in Word War II, he always said he had been blessed to have lived during the best time in history. He was also a very generous, kind and loyal man, who enjoyed a full life devoted to his family and friends.
Tommy will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his two sons, Bob (Karen) and Dave (Wendy) , his two daughters Karen (Joe) Gregory and Marlene (Bruce) McLaughlin. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jarrett, Jeff, Lisa, Keith, Tom and Sean; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Anderson and Lukas; sisters Winnifred and Ruth; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 16th Avenue N.W. (across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary) on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow in the Field of Honour at Queens Park Cemetery.
