Obituary of Melva Lucia HILLMO

Please share a memory of Melva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our precious wife and Mum passed away on January 18 at the age of 90.

Mum will be dearly missed and mourned by her husband of 65 years, Henry, daughters Linda (Don), Janice, Darlene (Dennis) and Cathy (James and son Jamie), and grandson Aaron (Maggie).  We are comforted knowing Mum will be joining her son, David (2002) and grandson, Bradley (2000). Melva was also predeceased by her sister, Pat and brother, Arnold.

Mum often raised her 5 children on her own as Dad worked out of town.  She loved to spend time in her flower garden, read, and knit. She knit many toques for family, friends, and the homeless. We often recognized her hats on people because of the bright colors. Mum and Dad followed politics and particularly loved watching the leadership conventions where bets were made between the two. They also enjoyed going to the casino where it didn’t matter if money was won or lost. Mum made a few trips back to her native England and was pleased when Dad was able to join her. Mum and Dad did many small trips together as well as an Alaska cruise which Mum particularly enjoyed.  Above all she just loved to be with her family. Melva was full of joy when her grandsons arrived, to which she was known as Nanny, and felt blessed to watch them grow and play cards with.

A big thank-you goes to the staff at Whitehorn Village who cared for her with kindness.

As per Melva’s wishes there will be a private family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
