Obituary of John "Jack" George COCHRANE
After a full life’s journey that began on July 6, 1934, Jack’s travels came to an end on April 14, 2018.
He leaves behind his partner and best friend Anne. After meeting at a dance in Winnipeg, they were married in 1955 and journeyed through life together for the next 63 years. Along the way, they were blessed by three children, Kim (Larry) McConville, Scott and Phil (Shelly) who learned the values of hard work, kindness and generosity through Jack’s selfless example. Jack’s legacy is his grandchildren; Ashely, Keely, Kevin and Georgia McConville, and Jessica and Ellen Cochrane. They loved their grandpa and will miss him terribly.
Jack loved to travel. He and Anne explored new places and experiences around the world. He loved to tell stories about the things that they saw and the people that they met along the way. Jack made lasting friendships with people across the globe. Jack also enjoyed trying new foods, which led to a passion for cooking. He was known for his annual Chinese dinner, and anyone who ate one of his meals would want to come back again. An avid gardener, Jack and Anne always had the prettiest yard in the neighborhood. Their flowers brightened the neighborhood, and they shared the bounty of their vegetable garden with friends and neighbors.
Jack worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Winnipeg before joining ATCO and moving to Calgary in 1966. He retired from ATCO in 1999. Although in the last few years Jack dealt with many health issues, he continued to live with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. We miss it already.
Jack is survived by his brothers Robert and James, and sister Alice.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stewart and Ruby; brother Doug; and sisters Jean, Marlene and Elizabeth.
A Memorial Service for Jack will be held at the Westview Baptist Church, 1313 Ranchlands Way NW, on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of their choice.
