Obituary of Carson Laine GUNTER

GUNTER – Carson Laine

February 5, 1957- June 7, 2018

Carson Laine Gunter beloved husband of Fenna Gunter (nee Kieken) of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the age of 61 years.

Born in Bancroft, Ontario, to Russell and Mona, Laine grew up in Bancroft and was a regular on all-star hockey teams from Peewee to Junior D.

In 1976, he came to Calgary to seek his future.  Laine landed a sales job at Chinook Chrysler, which began his lifelong career in sales and management in the automotive industry.  Laine worked for many years as Salesman and both Used and New Car Manager at Lynn Wood Chev Olds, before departing in 1992 to follow his dream of operating his own dealership. Laine owned Vulcan Chev Olds from 1992 to 1998.  While in Vulcan, Laine was an active Kinsmen member and served as past President. One of his highlights was organizing and participating in a charity ride from Vulcan to Lethbridge with Laine as one of the head wranglers.

After selling the dealership in Vulcan, Laine returned to Calgary and worked as General Manager at Southgate Chevrolet, starting in 1999 and departing briefly to work at Big 4 Motors, before returning to Southgate Chevrolet to work as General Sales Manager until 2017.

Over the years, Laine received recognition for his efforts, earning several awards for his Sales & Management excellence.  Laine cared deeply for his staff and provided mentorship to many who became dear friends over the years.  Laine spent the last number of years living near Fish Creek Park and enjoyed walking his dogs and golfing with friends.

Laine is survived by his wife Fenna, his sister Glenda (Jim), Red Lake, ON; brothers Jack, Mississauga, ON; Terry (Gloria), Calgary, AB; Barry (Bonnie), Cranbrook, BC; Kent (Lori), Fairmont Hot Springs, BC; Brent (Debbie), Kingston, ON.  Nieces Kim, Kristine, Linda, Stacey and Tenay; nephews C.J. and Ryan.  Great nieces Catherine, Andrea, Anna Maria, Aria, Alea and Sarah; great nephews Dawson, Karsen, Curtis, Aidan, Daniel and Ethan.
