Alexander (Sandy) McIntosh

Obituary of Alexander (Sandy) Douglas McIntosh

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander (Sandy) Douglas McIntosh on June 15, 2018.

Sandy was a very special Grandpa, Dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was the first of four sons born to George Douglas McIntosh and Agnes Henderson on August 12th 1933 in Guelph, Ontario. Sandy grew up on the family farm with a strong work ethic, tight family bonds, and developed a lifelong ability to rise early. Sandy met his wife Lois (Cowley) at the University of Guelph and married in May 1959. After becoming a Chartered Accountant, Sandy and Lois moved out west to Calgary in 1968 to raise their family of four children.  Sandy was given a second chance after surviving a massive heart attack March 17, 1978 and underwent a quadruple bypass - something he often marvelled at. He later developed an appreciation of travelling all around the world with Lois and liked to share his many great memories and stories. Sandy loved to laugh and be around people and faithfully hoped "his" Blue Jays would get it together this season until the end.

Sandy will be fondly remembered and missed by many, including his four children Keith, Kerrin, Kevin (Tsering) McIntosh, and Katrina McIntosh Bradley, his two very precious granddaughters Kyra and Izzy Bradley, his close brother Bruce McIntosh, his sisters-in-law Eileen, Clarabeth and Ria McIntosh, brother-in-law Paul (Catherine) Cowley, cousin Bruce (Adriana) McIntosh and many nieces and nephews in BC and Ontario. Bob (Tracy) Foley was a very dear friend to Sandy for nearly 30 years and will always be a part of the family.  Sandy was predeceased by his wife of almost 51 years Lois, brothers Don and Jack, and his parents, among others.

Sandy spent almost his entire career working for IKO Industries in various capacities including as the General Manager (and later a consultant after retirement) where he was well respected, was a mentor and made many good friends who remained close to him until the end.
