Obituary of Ernest TAYLOR

On January 11, 2014 Ernie Taylor passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was born the eldest of 3 children in Stettler, Alberta to Gerald and Elizabeth Taylor. Ernie is survived by his wife of 58 years Sylvia, his son Jay (Claire), of Canora, Saskatchewan; his son Jamie (Joyce), of Calgary and daughter Joy (Spencer) Scott of Shirley, BC. Ernie enjoyed the love of nine grandchildren, Kristin Payne, Derek McAulay, Troy Taylor-McAulay, (Nicole Kelly), Maggie Taylor, Chase Taylor, Justin Taylor, Janell Taylor and Cheyanne Taylor. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Shaun Taylor-McAulay, Tiffany Dunglow, and Kai Jefferies. Ernie leaves behind two younger siblings, Larry (Donna) Taylor and sister Vel Hasselfield as well as sister-in-laws, Shirley Balde, and Myrna (Derek) Flexhaugh-Taylor as well as many other loving nieces and nephews. A hardworking man his entire life, he was a man of numerous talents. Upon completion of high school from Western Canada High, Ernie embarked on several careers including the Calgary Herald, Palm Dairies, Calgary Stampede, SAIT as well as operating a Texaco Service Station. As a result of these many experiences Ernie became a very competent Mr. Fix-it and was depended upon to keep everything in top notch condition. During his life time he enjoyed panning for gold, tinkering in the garage, playing horseshoes and his favorite cat, Nabob. He was blessed with a keen memory and could relate all the details of his many travels throughout the U.S. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, his grandchildren Jessie and Brandon, his son-in-law Jim Payne and his brothers-in-law Elmer Balde and John Hasselfield. To honor Ernie’s request there will be no service or memorial, but if desired donations could be made directly to The Rosedale Hospice, 920 – 7a Street N.W.
