Obituary of Margaret Jane ELLIOTT
Margaret Elliott beloved wife of the late William Elliott of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the age of 88 years.
Educated at both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto, Margaret’s chosen profession of librarianship suited her love of books, reading and research. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed travel and exploring different cultures. During retirement Margaret continued to share her knowledge and love of learning with others through many years of volunteering at the Glenbow Museum.
Together, Margaret and Bill enjoyed travelling (especially a Mediterranean cruise) and Margaret continued after Bill’s passing - a visit to the Queen Charlotte Islands being her “trip of a lifetime”. Books were Margaret’s longest, most enduring companions for which she was most grateful.
Loving and quietly independent, Margaret instilled individuality and self-reliance in her children. These traits which served her children well can also be found in her five beautiful, strong granddaughters whom were dearly loved and cherished by Margaret. Her days were always made brighter by her four, treasured, great-grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her children, Clarke (Launi) Elliott, Leslie (Martin) Barnes, and David (Lynn) Elliott; five granddaughters: Jana (Chris) Hooper, Jennifer (Devin) Olson, Chelsea Elliott, Katie Barnes and Megan Elliott; four great-grandchildren: Bennet, Jack, Everly and Tenley; and many nieces and nephews.
At Margaret’s request a private family memorial Service will be held at a later date.
