Wally passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the age of 102. Wally was born in Bath, England and came to Calgary, Alberta with his mother, father and sister in 1914. He was predeceased by his sister Constance Robie in 2003 and his wife Elsie in 1986, who was the love of his life. They were married for 51 years and lived in Ogden, then moved to Killarney in the 60’s. He retired from the CP Rail Ogden Shops in the 70’s as a Carman and Welder. Wally was deamed “Mr. Ogden” on his 100th birthday and saw Calgary grow and change dramatically in his 100 years. His endless wit and sense of humour will be missed by everyone who knew him. Wally is survived by his daughter Lorraine Nilsen (Robert MacDonald) and four grandchildren, Richard Nilsen, Randy Nilsen, Kim Clark (Greg) and Lana Webster (Dean), and seven great-grandchildren Jessica, Julia, Andrew, Cole, Kirstin, Chelsea and Nicole. In honour of Wally’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will take place for family at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com. The family would like to thank the staff at Beaver Dam Lodge in Ogden for the loving care they gave Grandad Wally for the past 14 years.
