Obituary of Antoinette "Toni" Jenni BENNEKE
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Mother and best friend, Antoinette “Toni” Benneke of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the age of 89 years.
Mom was born Antonia – Baroness von Hahn and was always proud of her aristocratic roots.
Toni immigrated to Canada with her Mother, two brothers and sisters shortly after WWII. The family settled in B.C., in Vernon and Vancouver. Toni was always a free spirit and moved on her own to Calgary where she established a life. Here, as a single Mother she raised her beloved daughter and only child Kathy.
She was very proud of her 45 years of service with Sears Canada where she worked her way up from sales associate to division manager specializing in ladies coats and fashions. Toni and Kathy enjoyed many years of travelling together to the U.S., and Europe. Las Vegas and Hawaii were special favourites. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering with the Kerby Seniors Centre and the Calgary Philharmonic.
Toni is survived by her daughter, Kathy; sisters, Sigrid Turmann, Brigitta von Bremen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Carl-Baron von Hahn and Rita-Baroness von Hahn, brothers George and Paul and her special cousin Helmar.
“Momi Owl” I will miss you so much. You brought thoughtfulness, kindness, fun, laughter and respect to everyone you knew and met. You held yourself up proudly in every situation.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
